I miss working with Kat. She was the one that gave me the tagline that caused me to write the above titled presentation which caused me to move forward with my life.
“Novices absorb knowledge like a sponge, intermediates hoard it for themselves, and masters just give it away” (accompanied by the appropriate hand gestures). Kat told me that she was taught that phrase by a former boss of hers. I found it to be very powerful and wrote a whole presentation about the topics of sharing your knowledge with others, the science of Knowledge Conversion and really just tell you to go live your life because it’s going to be over before you know it!
I’ve been moderately successful with the presentation, speaking at many SQL Saturdays and also presented it at PASS Summit 2018! I really enjoy giving this presentation. I think it’s so incredibly important (so *VERY* important) for all of us to invest in these Professional Development skills. I’m doing a number of short videos on Business Continuity and one of them is on Communication. Learn how to talk to people, learn how to ask questions, learn how to share with other people. Don’t be stuck in your silo, but instead investigate the world and move forward.
I look forward to hearing from others on their experiences in giving away their knowledge!
